CDC has issued a travel alert (Level 2-Practice Enhanced Precautions) for people traveling to regions and certain countries where Zika virus transmission is ongoing: Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Suriname, Venezuela, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

According to Taiwan's disease control agency there have been another 16 deaths caused by dengue fever, bringing the death toll since May to 174. The new death cases were reported from Kaohsiung city in south Taiwan. The victims were aged between 35 and 88.

The World Health Organisation confirmed a new case of Ebola in the Tonkolili District of Sierra Leone on 15 January 2016. Sierra Leone was previously declared Ebola transmission free on 7 November 2015.
